According to the public relations of the Iranian Fisheries Science and Research Institute, joint meeting of the deputy director of fisheries of the Iran Fisheries Organization with the Iranian Fisheries Science and Research Institute was held on research activities, lanternfishes and deep-sea fishing at the session hall of the institute, dated 11 August 2018. The meeting was held with the presence of Dr. Kakolaki, the deputy director of fisheries and fishing ports of the Iran Fisheries Organization, a group of managers, relevant experts, Dr. Mortezai, the deputy director of research and technology of the institute, Dr. Hossein Zadeh, the deputy director of fisheries and aquaculture extension and transfer of research findings, Dr. Moradi, the deputy director of support and administration, Dr. Mortazavi, head of the Persian Gulf and Oman Sea Ecological Research Institute, Dr. Salar Puri, Dr. Hosseini, head of the Chabahar Research Center of the High Seas, Dr. Vali Nasab and experts in the department of biology and stock assessment of the institute.
Dr. Mortezai welcomed the attendees and pointed to the importance and necessity of holding capture fisheries sessions. Then, Dr. Mortazavi explained about the project of lanternfishes and the objectives of the contract and the commitments of the employer and the executer. In the following, Dr. Salar Puri presented a report on the process of exploiting and analyzing the catch data from fishing fleets of lanternfishes and explained about the decreasing trend of the catch per unit of fishing effort, rapid development of fishing fleets, technical problems of fishing gears, non specialty fishing methods and inappropriate status of exploitation of stocks. Then, each participant gave a point of view and discussed the issues. Participants made suggestions on reducing fishing effort, specialty fishing methods forJohnius belangerii and the cutlassfish, modification of fishing net and using proper equipment formidwater trawling and monitoring and managing fishing fleets of lanternfishes.
