The meeting on investigating the causes and methods of preventing and combating smuggling of caviar and sturgeon fishes was held at the conference hall of the Mazandaran Department of Fisheries with the presence of the general managers, deputy directors and experts of the various organizations and different judicial departments, the commanders of the Law Enforcement Force of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Ministry of Intelligence of the Islamic Republic of Iran and Iranian Police Criminal Investigation Department, the Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade, the Agricultural Research Education and Extension Organization, the Suspending Organization of Iran, the Department of Environment, the Islamic Republic of Iranian Broadcasting, the office of sturgeon fishes of the Department of Fisheries, the representative of the Caspian Sea Ecology Research Center, the secretary of the commission for planning, coordination and supervision of the anti-smuggling of goods and currency of the province. At first, the head of the Department of Fisheries and the secretary of the headquarters explained the dimensions and aspects of trafficking of sturgeon fishes. Then, the deputy director of research of the Caspian Sea Ecology Research Center explained about the trend of changes in the stock of sturgeon fishes in the last three decades and the causes of the decrease and destruction of fish stocks and the time required for the recovery of stocks with respect to the longevity of these fish in the event of complete security of the Caspian Sea as well as the causes and motives of increasing the number of fishing violations and fishing damages of unauthorized traps on sturgeon species. He also made suggestions. At the end, approvals related to the fight against smuggling, control of fisheries and supply of sturgeon fishes were approved.
